Charles (Chuck) Abrams spent most of his life living in the Chicago area. He graduated from the University of Illinois and Northwestern Universities after majoring in Advertising. He worked for various advertising agencies all in account management and media – never the creative end. In 1992 he moved to Los Angeles and continued to work for different advertising agencies. In 2003 he left the agency world to become a professional photographer and pursue his passion for creating unusual and distinctive photographs. In describing his work, Chuck states “I try to capture the essence of my subjects in terms of intense color, composition, lighting, pattern, shape, form or texture. When shooting subjects like classic automobiles, I don’t just shoot the whole vehicle. Instead, I like to get in close to create the strong sense of color and design that often goes unnoticed.”

Chuck exhibits at many fine art shows, car shows and car auctions, including Palm Springs Exotic Car Auction, The Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance, Tempe Festival of the Arts, Paso Robles Classic Collector Car Auction & Show, Huntington Beach Concours d’Elegance, La Dolce Vita Automobila at Blackhorse Golf Course in Monterey Bay, the Crazy Car Promotions Annual Car Show and the Mustang Club of America. Currently, he is working on a book of his car collages called “Exotic Car Collages” and hopes to have it published by the end of the year.

Chuck’s C&F presentation will cover how he got started in photography as a kid and then continued throughout his 30 year (non-creative) advertising career. Then focus on what he has been doing since turning professional, and how by a quirk of fate, his whole photographic direction changed. He will share what has resulted in terms of business success; the kind of clients he works for and what they are like and recent publicity, including being featured in the Artist Profile of the Fall, 2009 issue of Garage Style Magazine, and in the Spring, 2009 issue in the Unique Artists section. Abrams will show examples of both his old and new (including experimental work) via a digital projected presentation. He will also have real life examples of his work to show different sizes and framing alternatives.

Originally, this C&F presentation was to be titled “And I’m the Baby Photographer.” During Chuck’s career, he has photographed many subjects including Nature, Travel, Portraiture, Motorcycles and Classic or Exotic Cars. He admits that he has the most fun shooting Classic or Exotic Cars and creating custom collages for their owners, and that these custom collages are like baby portraits for his client’s special babies!
