“Painting with Light” photographer, ERIC CURRY, likes to say he exposes the real heroes in our everyday lives. He sheds light (lots of light) on people of integrity, character and passion… along with some pretty COOL automobiles, planes, and other moving machines whether it’s a ‘56 Ford Pickup, B-25 Bomber, Bradley Fighting Machine, Corvette, Crop Duster, DC-3, F-102, Long Haul Truck, Navy Hardsuit (Atmospheric Diving System) or Telescope. His wonderful stories are just as colorful as his large-scale multiple exposures.

Eric Curry was born in Los Angeles, vintage 1956. He states that he was raised on sugary breakfast cereals, and Saturday morning cartoons, with a healthy dose of “Gilligan’s Island” re-runs thrown in for good measure. Graduating from the public school system with a solid “C” grade point average, he was clearly destined for greatness, or at least a career in the visual arts. Continuing on and completing the curriculum from Art Center College of Design in 1980 with a BA in photography. Eric was originally trained and specialized in studio still life/special effects photography. After graduating from Art Center, he ran his own advertising photography studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark for 12 years, returning to the states in 1992.

Eric made the transition to location industrial photography because it affords, as he comments, “A much broader pallet of avenues for creativity.” Coming full circle, it seems appropriate that Eric through this series of art/documentary images is now the one making his own visual statement of who and where we are as a nation. Not at all art for the masses, but as he refers to it, “Hyper-photographic industrial art that everybody can enjoy looking at.” Currently Mr. Curry creates photographs exclusively on location for select clients and himself, taking full advantage of the depth and possibilities afforded by each and every new challenge. Curry’s work was recently exhibited in the “Newer Topographics: Photographs of Digitally Altered Urban Landscapes” at the California Museum of Photography at UC Riverside.
