EZRA MABENGEZA, renowned South African Photographer/Filmmaker/Activist/Actor, presents “Dialogue Beyond the Vision”. Respected internationally, Ezra Mabengeza, who was born and raised in the context of apartheid, states he picked up a camera because he was “determined to create concise and everlasting histories of the real black experience, our humanity.” Mabengeza was a teaching assistant at the International Center of Photography in New York (2006-2009).

Born in Port Elizabeth (now Ibhayi), a coastal city in the Eastern Cape (now Nelson Mandela Metro pole) of South Africa, to Gerald Mabengeza, a former political prisoner and street committee member of the African National Congress, and Isabel Mabengeza, a retired matron of Dora Nginza Hospital and present day AIDS counselor. Ezra states, “survival under apartheid was only manageable due to my strong family structure. Their life teachings of the pursuit of excellence, respect for the sanctity of life and humility continue to guide me. Without the incredible, against-all-odds sacrifices they made on my account, life would be unlivable. Their tremendous vision of a better life not only for me, but all South Africans (humanity at large), is the backbone of my inspiration".

Ezra received his B.A. in Developmental Politics and Organization Psychology from the University of South Africa, as well as theatre training from the Marilyn Bellingham Drama School, Diane Kingsley Drama School in Eastern Cape, South Africa, and the Brooklyn Theatre Arts Project. His film and television credits include ER; “Miracle at St. Anna” directed by Spike Lee, and most recently “Invictus” directed by Clint Eastwood.

Ezra collaborated with acclaimed South African painter Jonathan Freemantle in “A Truth in Black and White” exhibition which is currently touring worldwide: Edinburgh, Cape Town, with New York, London, Amsterdam, and Sri Lanka scheduled for 2010 already. www.atruthinblackandwhite.com Ezra’s “line of sight” is characterized by pictorial perspectives that punctuate a significant history of oppression with his ultimate objective being that of depicting optimism in the face of adversity–the triumph of the human spirit! www.bantustand.com
