When thinking of spring and photography, naturally one thinks of Landscape Photography, and this season Clickers & Flickers welcomes the return appearance of Outdoor and Nature Photographer Rob Sheppard.
His previous presentations at C&F were back in January 1997 and May 2001. As Rob states "Landscape photography is one of the most popular types of photography and has been for a long time." Beautiful landscapes that beg to be photographed are an important part of locations around the world.
Landscapes sit still for a photograph, they don’t move around and change position while you are photographing, and people like look at landscape photos. Just count all the landscape calendars that people put on their desks and walls!
Landscapes are old, yet always new – many landscapes were formed a very long time ago, yet every day they look different form the light and weather. That makes them a great photo subject. You can usually count on a landscape being available yet also fresh every day.
In addition, the landscape is the oldest type of photography there is and has a rich tradition because of it. The first photographs were of landscapes because they did not move during the long exposures required then.
Landscape photography influenced Congress when it created the first national park at Yellowstone. Landscape photography continues to affect how we preserve and appreciate our world.
Rob Sheppard has a new book out this spring, The Magic of Digital Landscape Photography. In his presentation at Clickers & Flickers, he will offer some tips and techniques from the book to help you get the most from landscapes with a digital camera.
You’ll learn about making the most of traditions of light and composition on the landscape as well as new technologies of natural-looking HDR photography and more.
Rob’s website is at 222.robsheppardphoto.com, where he also sells instructional videos on Lightroom for nature photographers. He blogs at www.photodigitary.com, www.dpexperience.com and www.nwf.org/photozone.
